The South Sydney Rabbitohs are one of Australia’s oldest and most successful professional rugby league clubs, established in 1908 and based at Redfern Oval, Sydney. The Rabbitohs are both a high-performance NRL team and a community-focused organisation, with strong investment in youth development, education, and Indigenous engagement programs.
The new Reg Richardson AO Training & Learning Centre, developed in partnership with TAFE NSW and the Rabbitohs Institute, represents the next step in the club’s commitment to combining elite training with education and community programs. This facility required state-of-the-art security infrastructure to protect players, staff, and students while providing flexible access to a wide range of users.
The Challenge
The Rabbitohs’ project team engaged VSP Security Wholesale and Altech Security Services to deliver an AXON access control and security solution tailored to the club’s unique needs. Vivotek cameras were also deployed across the site and integrated with NX Witness VMS for comprehensive video management. The overall solution was designed to meet the following objectives:
• Modernisation: Replace outdated security infrastructure with a scalable and future-proof system for both access control and surveillance.
• Flexibility: Support multiple user groups (players, staff, students, visitors) with tailored access levels, schedules, and CCTV coverage of shared spaces.
• Simplicity: Provide supervisors with an easy-to-manage interface for access control and centralised video monitoring, reducing reliance on outdated keypads and standalone DVRs.
• Compliance: Ensure the system meets Australian Standards for access control, intrusion detection, and surveillance storage/retention.
• Future Integration: Support mobile credential adoption and VMS scalability to align with the Rabbitohs’ long-term technology strategy.
The Solution
VSP Security Wholesale implemented a tailored security package centred on the AXON Access Control platform, complemented by Vivotek cameras and NX Witness VMS. The following products were supplied:

Results
The system was carefully installed to cover all critical areas, integrating both access control and video surveillance into a centralised security platform.
• Access Control: The AXON-256AU control panel provided a reliable, scalable backbone for managing multiple doors. The web-based management system allowed supervisors to quickly add and remove users with tailored access levels. HID Signo readers were deployed at all key entry points, delivering state-of-the-art credential security and mobile credential readiness.
• Video Management: Vivotek cameras were strategically installed across the site to provide clear coverage of key zones. Integrated with NX Witness VMS, the cameras enable live monitoring, fast video search, and secure evidence retention - ensuring both operational efficiency and compliance with surveillance requirements.
Together, the access control and CCTV components provided a seamless, future-proof solution that strengthened security across the facility while simplifying day-to-day management.
